Videos: Evidence, Momentum Building Against Planned Parenthood

Lila Rose on Glenn Beck

The evidence and momentum to strip Planned Parenthood’s federal subsidies that we, the tax-payer, give to them every year is building. There’s a good chance we can do it very soon. But we need to stay vocal, spread awareness and continue to put pressure on our Senators.

The House of Representatives just passed legislation that would defund them. We just need to convince the Senate to take up the measure now and hopefully include it in current spending bill negotiations. There is tons of video (and other) evidence that Planned Parenthood is corrupt, regularly and intentionally misrepresents medical facts to deceive women and is systemically willing to aid in sex trafficking rings.

Even President Obama recently showed he’s not willing to defend Planned Parenthood much at all right now:

With the kind of massive support he’s received from Planned Parenthood in the past, for him to give this kind of non-answer says quite a bit.

And last week there was an excellent framing of the issue on Glenn Beck’s show when he had Lila Rose as a guest. Beck here does an excellent job putting the corruption within Planned Parenthood into context (despite some flubbed points by Beck). And Lila Rose does an even better job commenting on it. It is definitely worth watching and sharing:

Any reason I can’t see others’ comments? I’m told there are 2 of them, but they are not to be found.
Thanks

I admire Lila Rose and have defended the tactics they used in their exposure of the CNJ Planned Parenthood clinic as morally praiseworthy.

She would do herself, her organization and the cause of life a great service, by steering clear of Glenn Beck.

Amen Chris.

Chris – Lila would be crazy not to go on Glenn Beck’s show. It’s a HUGE audience full of potential supporters for the cause of Life and Live Action.

If we base whose show we go on by whether or not we agree with everything they say, we’d never go anywhere. And here I think Beck did a good job connecting with the emotional side of this issue for many people. And he put it into the broader historical context.

We should take advantage of every such opportunity to spread the word and bolster support. If other networks and shows want to ignore the issue and not invite Lila or others on, that’s their loss and quite obviously their bias. But it doesn’t mean we should say no to those THAT DO SUPPORT OUR CAUSE.

Thanks for your “defense” post on the issue – I’ll check it out!

Peace fellas!

Dear Matt,

I respectfully disagree.

The issue with Beck is not that he has taken some debatable positions, about which reasonable people may disagree in good faith.

Glenn Beck is (forgive the hifalutin’ technical jargon) looney tunes.

More to this, and quite sadly, Lila Rose (or any other advocate of life) preaches to great numbers of the converted when she appears on Beck.

I’d much rather see her on Rachel Maddow, or even doing guest posts or web video “one-off” interviews with someone at HuffPo.

That would be something.

Looking forward to your thoughts on my Live Action defense.

It has generated interest on FB, as well.

Chris – with much sincere respect, calling Beck “looney tunes” is looney tunes.

I agree that Maddow or the HuffPo would be great missionary fields. But they only have people they disagree with on if they can make them look stupid. Not to mention they are rife with intellectual dishonesty, much worse to legitimize than a few cartoon-like qualities.

Those that have tried to marginalize Beck by just writing him off as extreme or crazy or looney tunes miss a lot and do themselves a disservice. I may strongly disagree with what people write at the HuffPo and elsewhere, but I don’t marginalize it. I recognize that it represents a real point of view that actually exists in large numbers…people that we should care about reaching with truth. And people who, at their heart, are responding to something real in their lives…however misguided their response may be.

Beck’s audience (as I know many of them) may be “converted” (as you said) on some major issues in general, but many of them (and Beck) are still lacking some of the necessary nuance or context that our faith and Catholic view would provide. I see it as much more important to be present there and other similar places in order to try and influence it in a positive way, re-orient it where needed to make it something better. It’s a ripe place for such work as, as many there are sympathetic to a Catholic position in general.

A small example of the great good done by Lila’s appearance, I think , is her chance to defend the evil of abortion even in the case of rape and incest…a position that many, if not most, people who call themselves ‘Pro-life” struggle with or make exception for.

That said, her main purpose (I’d think) with the recent PR is not to convert the other side (as they won’t be voting to defund Planned Parenthood any time soon). Her purpose is to build awareness and support among the converted in order to put pressure on passing he legislation that would defund planned parenthood. The numbers are there, but we need to rally them up and move in a unified fashion…and it would certainly be possible to accomplish the goal. In this sense, Beck’s show is far more productive than Maddow or the HuffPo. Going on Maddow would probably do the opposite by firing up the opposition that much more.

Your Live Action defense is on my reading list for when I next get the chance. Thanks again and peace!

Dear Matt,

I am afraid that our profound agreement on the important questions would risk getting lost, should I pursue the argument over GB and the propriety of LR’s appearance on his program.

Let us, for the moment, at least, agree to disagree on that particular subject.

Let us rather try to work together, to marshall our forces, as it were, and such as they are, to promote the work of LR and LA.

Best,
C.

Yes indeed! That’s my point! Let’s work together – all of us. :-)

I read your post on Live Action – loved it and shared it. Thank you for that.

Chris Altieri (The Lazy Disciple) February 28, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Thanks, Matt!

I’ve noticed a spike in my stats at the Chronicles.

Must be due to you! :-)

We can do great things if we keep our eye on the ball and encourage each other.

Agreed! Thank you again. I always appreciate your very thoughtful presence.

What a gorgeous woman. I know her good looks don’t make a difference to the arguments but she certainly makes a pleasant spokeswoman.
