Tweet Catholic

tweet CatholicHoly tweet!  I just launched on Monday and it’s getting a lot of interest already! It’s just a website to help bring together the Catholic community on

I thought of this idea a few months ago but have just been too busy to do anything about it.  Well I decided to go ahead and just do it this past weekend and I’m glad I did.  Catholics on Twitter seem to be liking it a lot so far.

On a very basic level it will give you a way to easily find a lot of other Catholics on Twitter.  It even has them ranked by who is followed the most, etc.  We hope to improve this “ranking” system in the future to look at some other creative factors instead of just # of followers.  It also has a live “Feed” of all of the tweets that all of those on “The List” have tweeted recently.  Pretty neat.

But the real reason I made TweetCatholic is not simply for this basic functionality.  It’s to hopefully do something bigger with it.  Alright, so we are finally getting a good, dynamic list of a lot of cool Catholics on Twitter…so what?  What now?

There is an Ideas page on TweetCatholic where users can leave thoughts on some creative ideas we can apply to TweetCatholic and the community.  We’re already starting to get some good ideas.  Feel free to share your thoughts there too!

We are starting to tie profiles to TweetCatholic – which is really great for a number of reasons.  That is going to allow us to tie in a lot of other Catholic information to the TweetCatholic community.  And it’s going to help us begin to pull together the Catholic online community in new, effective ways.  That’s the goal with all of this – to help us take the next step.

If you’re on Twitter, definitely check it out!

Hi Matt,

I had no idea this was just launched. So glad I got in on the ground floor. Can you tell me how you created it (what technologies), I’d like to build one for my industry.

Dan – I just used wordpress, some plugins, and the Twitter API to hack it all together. Let me know if I can help anymore!
