We have big challenges with helping the poor in our country and around the world. This video (below) shares some thoughtful insights as to how and how not to do that effectively. There is no question that virtually everyone, no matter which political party they support, wants to help the poor. Just because somebody may [...]

Some comments I made on an article on Catholicism.About.com recently got the attention of the author, Scott Richert.  Scott does a great job with these blogs, so check them out sometime. The article in question had to do with Where Faith and Politics Intersect.  If you want the details of it, just go read it.  [...]

Since Daschle wasn’t cuttin’ it, Obama has made a new nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services. Unfortunately, it’s probably even more disappointing than Daschle. Given Obama’s staunchly pro-abortion political history, we should expect to get a “pro-choice” person in this position in his cabinet. That’s the sad truth. This is what America voted [...]

Nancy Pelosi has had plenty of reminders of her stance on abortion and how it is, you know, totally incompatible with being a Catholic. Even her own bishop has repeatedly informed her of the public scandal she is causing. And he is still waiting to meet with her in person about it – but Nancy [...]

The Republicans – forced to be principled once again – are at least back to doing one of the things they were always good at: keeping the Democrats from totally messing up our country. We’ll see how well they do and if they hold their ground.  Unfortunately, with the overwhelming majorities given to the Democrats [...]
