Of Gods and Men - Catholic

I recently got to see an amazing new film about faith. It has won all kinds of awards. And it’s about some Catholic Cistercian monks. Oh and it’s based on a very recent, true story. It was excellent. It’s called “Of Gods and Men.” It’s the story of seven Cistercian monks serving in Algeria, caught [...]

Pope Benedict XVI

“Do not become utterly absorbed in activism! There would be so much to do that one could be working on it constantly. And that is precisely the wrong thing. Not becoming totally absorbed in activism means maintaining consideratio — discretion, deeper examination, contemplation, time for interior pondering, vision, and dealing with things, remaining with God [...]

Clouds Argument from Contingency

Those that liken the Christian God to that of the “Flying Spaghetti Monster” or any other nonsensical, mythical figure do one thing well when doing so – reveal their ignorance. Many of them are highly intelligent people, but they are quite literally ignorant (in the true sense of the word) of the God Christians truly [...]

Blessed are the poor in spirit

Never have the beatitudes sounded so relevant for me. I hope you’ll listen to this all the way through, it’s very short and the wise words are worth the wait. “Blessed are you if you are not attached to material things…And blessed are you if you are not addicted to good feelings.” Wow – does [...]

They distinguish between the original Christian Church and then explain that the “Catholic” Church is just one of the many divisions that came at a later date. One of the most common versions of this story is that Constantine [...]

Archbishop Nienstedt

The answer is no. And if people understood Catholic teaching and what receiving communion means anymore, then this would be oh so very obvious. When you go up for communion, to receive the Eucharist, the priest says, “The Body of Christ.” And we reply, “Amen.” When we say “Amen,” we are not only saying, “Amen, [...]

Post image for Pope to Children: Most important things to learn

Amazingly simple and profound words from Pope Benedict XVI speaking to some children about learning, friends and Jesus. I love it. And while it’s a wonderful message for children, it needs to be heard and reflected upon even more so by all of us adults:

blue eyes

We spend a good part of our lives finding ourselves – figuring out who we are. In one sense, figuring out who we are is a life-long journey we never quite finish in this life. But in a more practical sense, it’s more like a starting point. It’s that point at which we feel like [...]

Stephen Hawking on God

Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest scientific minds of our time, was recently interviewed about his latest book “The Grand Design”: According to Hawking, something can indeed be created from nothing. He believes our universe was created from nothing. [...] Hawking, arguably the greatest scientific mind of our time, said he believes the laws of [...]

The faith of our children

A lot of parents indicate that they don’t want to influence their kids too much as to which religion they choose. They want their kids to be able to choose their religion freely for themselves without any kind of bias. I think that’s a really neat idea.
