Eucharist

It was one of the hardest teachings in Jesus’ time. So hard it caused many of his followers to leave Him. And so it remains today. Despite the ultimate intimacy with God it allows and despite the fact that even the very first Christians centered their lives and worship around it, many Christians still struggle [...]

What is the most intimate union we can have with God on this Earth? What did Jesus specifically ask us to do until He comes again? What did He say we must do in order to have eternal life? To whom shall we go? What is the primary way God gave us to commune with [...]

The answer is no. And if people understood Catholic teaching and what receiving communion means anymore, then this would be oh so very obvious. When you go up for communion, to receive the Eucharist, the priest says, “The Body of Christ.” And we reply, “Amen.” When we say “Amen,” we are not only saying, “Amen, [...]

Post image for FAIL: Rep. Kennedy publicly takes on bishop over communion

My comments in blue: U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) said in an interview Sunday that Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has instructed him to refrain from Communion because of his pro-abortion political position [So the bishop is doing his job and has privately reminded Kennedy that he shouldn't present himself for communion while being publicly [...]

He later demonstrates the fullness of this teaching for us at the Last Supper (the first Mass) – which we celebrate today on this Holy Thursday.

Unfortunately, a lot of Catholics still don’t get it. Here’s is yet another quote from a Bishop clarifying the issue:

A couple of awesome quotes from Cardinal Ratzinger (who is now Pope Benedict XVI) reflecting on transubstantiation – the changing of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. A great mystery of our faith that seems at least a tad less mysterious after reading these: “The transformation happens, [...]

Jesus and Wine

For the first 1800-1900 years of Christianity, drinking alcohol in moderation was one more way to enjoy God’s gifts. But a movement in the social politic of America in the early 1900’s suddenly changed some protestant denominations stance on alcohol consumption. These groups began teaching that drinking alcohol was always or almost always a sin. [...]
