Sen. Barbara Boxer compares abortion to Viagra

Oh. Em. Gee.

If healthcare reform covers Viagra, it should cover abortion services, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said yesterday.[…]

“The men who have brought us this don’t single out a procedure that’s used by a man, or a drug that is used by a man, that involves his reproductive health care and say they have to get a special rider,” Boxer said on the Senate floor.

“There’s nothing in this amendment that says if a man some days wants to buy Viagra, for example, that his pharmaceutical coverage cannot cover it, that he has to buy a rider. I wouldn’t support that,” she said. [source]

Just remember here that what Boxer is calling “reproductive health” for women here she is referring to abortion – nothing else. And this “firewall” she is talking about is total hogwash. And the amendment she is arguing against would simply maintain the current law, Hyde amendment restrictions. All her banter about people wanting to arrest women for killing their children or taking back the women’s movement decades has absolutely nothing to do with this current health care reform debate. That is all more of the same from another shameless politician.

And then on top of that she compares getting an abortion to using Viagra. Now how does a homo sapien who has obviously successfully progressed to the stages of human life where one can brush their teeth, dress themselves, use the toilet, and create magical imaginary worlds all inside their own head and who has convinced millions of other adult homo sapiens to vote her into federal political office still think that having an abortion is akin to using Viagra? I have two plausible conclusions. One, she’s dishonest. Two…uhhh, I could only think of one, sorry.

Perhaps it is not far-fetched to compare elective abortion (abortion on demand) to “elective” Viagra (e.g. Viagra for recreational use). Does she think the healthcare plan should pay for Viagra on demand?
