Quote: Bring on the Wild Beasts

The Chritian Martyrs Last prayer - Saints

“I am the wheat of God. Let me be ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.” – St. Ignatius of Antioch, Romans 4

These are the fearless words of a great Christian martyr on the way to his death around the end of the first century. He apparently was later fed literally to the beasts – eaten by lions. What faith these words bear witness to!

And what powerful imagery of how the trials and suffering of this life bring about our perfection. Oh, what value there is in suffering when we allow it to create in us “the pure bread of Christ.”

Remember they hated Him before they hated us!

Reading Letters written long ago by such as “Letter of Clement of Rome” and by Ignatius of Antioch, and others, who left us what they believed in the early Church to what we believe today proves our Faith is Apostolic. It has proven to me that we have the teachings of Christ as He wants everyone to believe.
