Is Bill Clinton serious? I’m in shock.

Bill Clinton sat down with CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta to weigh in on Obama’s support of Embryonic Stem Cell Research. At first, I was like…ohhhkay, for being a pro-abortion guy at least he recognizes that there are some ethical issues here and that we are dealing with human life. But something wasn’t making sense…

Then, Bill Clinton reminds us that we need to be careful that the embryos don’t end up getting fertilized. Twice he says this. And then I watched it twice to make sure my mind wasn’t going crazy.

And there was no word from Dr. Sanjay Gupta (who surely understands what an embryo is) to correct the former president.

Dear Bill, embryos are embryos because they’ve already been fertilized.

I’m still in a bit of shock. Surely there is some reasonable explanation for this other than Bill Clinton not understanding that embryos by their very existence have already been fertilized. Surely? Anyone?

If a former president of the United States doesn’t understand the issue, no wonder we are having so much trouble with the whole moral clarity thing! Quite unbelievable really. Video below.

When the embryo is frozen… the soul frozen too?

Joe Jordan March 13, 2009 at 1:18 am

Holy cow! Thanks Matt. Just goes to prove what I’ve always thought about Slick Willie. He’s been lying so long that he can’t even tell when he’s doing it any more. This HAS to get wide distribution. Thanks for letting me know about it. I’ll make sure and get it spread around.

Bill Clinton is probably not the only politician who doesn’t understand the reality of stem cell issues (or abortion for that matter). Yet, in their arrogance, positions are taken, bills and laws are passed that continue to destroy lives. Their use of evil for a supposed greater good will eventually be exposed to the many in the US that also do not understand what’s really happening here. Bill Clinton’s ignorance is a blessing in disguise. Let’s pray that this interview becomes widespread.

OMG!!! Bad enough for the ignorance of our ex-president but more telling, as you point out, that CNN/Gupta can’t bring themselves to expose that ignorance ! They really do believe we are all that stupid and uninformed. Thanks Matt. I would love to see this get some legs in the media but this may be the only place to see this ignorance illustrated. This is a little more important than mis-spelling Potato(e)!

I am commenting on Joe Strummer’s comment (above) on the soul being frozen (or not) – Joe, I am totally PRO-LIFE – totally! No exceptions, okay? I loved your comment/question. I have always wondered if the embryo in a dish does have a soul – before the embryo is in the womb – because God did not knit this baby together in the mother’s womb (yet) – Psalm 139 – and I still struggle that HE would be a part of a mockery of his creation of life. I know people who have had their eggs hatched and they have had lovely children – one had triplets because they took all three eggs – but did they have souls before they were planted in the womb when and where God knit them together. The Catholic Catechism #366 teaches that God places the soul in the fetus when it is conceived. . . “it is not produced by the parents.” Comments anyone? I am not for stem cell research in the embryo with or without a soul but it is still a question I would like to have answered. I also go with the Church – whatever they say or claim, I am there. (I am a convert!)

My daughter was conceived via IVF…and YES, she has a SOUL!!!

Lori March 13, 2009 at 10:33 am

Conception, be it inside or outside of the womb, is when the soul is placed. If a child were able to be grown completely outide of the womb, scientifically, it would still have a soul. Not believing that has lead to the dehumanization we already face. If a dog were pregnant, society would never question when it becomes a puppy. Can you imagine the uproar if every major city had a clinic to take your pets to abort their puppies and call it a choice? Why are humans so disposable? God gives us free will and intervenes when He chooses. Our ability to choose evil in no way discounts the goodness of God. Lord have mercy.

Thank You Terry…The best I have done is this…the soul and the body are knit together like a two colored tapestry…as the body grows …so grows the soul…else our souls would be older or younger than our bodies….and in terms of a fertilized egg….this could imply a pre existence of the soul which I think the Church rejects..the difficulty exists in the idea that an imaterial soul can freeze like water…but if it’s in heaven waiting its arrival…then it pre guess is it’s lurking around in that frozen egg….a very young soul to say the least

An embryo IS already fertilized. An egg is not fertilized. I learned that in elementary school. There are many scientists, including myself, who believe that life begins at conception. When government talks about leaving this issue in “science” and not in politics, he means leaving these unborn babies in the hands of unscrupulous scientists who do not care that it is human life. They see it as a “tissue” to be experimented upon. The truth is that stem cells harvested from adults have shown more actual potential for nervous tissue regeneration. The desire to use embryonic stem cells is a need for pro-abortion politicians to feel as if some “good” can come from the evil of abortion.

I may be totally off base here (although I don’t think I am) Here is the way I see it: how many women did God ask before our Blessed Mary said “Yes”? It’s kind of the same way with the petri dish embryos; so many don’t become embryos, they just don’t blend with the blessings of God. Then there are the ones that become embryos, able to live, God had a hand in that and they have a soul from the first second. There is no possible way a human can make something that wonderful on their own. They all have a purpose from God, sadly the scientists don’t think this way and they kill them. Maybe God’s pupose has been for some of these children to creat a cure for cancer or peace and they have been killed! Why God continues to trust us humans with His precious children is beyond me, hopefully that means He hasn’t given up hope for us yet.

Wow, I learned about embryos in biology. This is basic to the survival of the human race, to know how it works, how the egg when fertilized becomes an embryo. It seems like the guy (doctor) on CNN was afraid to correct former President Clinton, or maybe he was paid off not to say anything. Not sure. But I do hope that Bill Clinton takes a little basic biology lesson soon!
Not to mention the souls of those little ones!
God Bless:)

Can you imagine if a pro-life person had shown this kind of ignorance? It would be plastered on the front page of every newspaper and the topic of every news and talk show. It would be in every google search you typed up.

But when it happens to a pro-abortion person? Not a word from the main stream media pointing out the blatant ignorance of a former president of the United States.

I would say it’s unbelievable if stuff like this didn’t happen all the time. But it’s cases like this where the bias is absolutely undeniable.

Not to mention that it is leaders like this that are deciding policy on these matters!!!! Are you kidding me!?!?

Terry Fenwick March 14, 2009 at 12:07 am

It is almost impossible to get anyone to want to watch a video with Clinton anymore and it is so difficult to explain to them what he is saying – they will think it is a joke – but you have THE VIDEO! Thanks for that!

Darth Apathy March 15, 2009 at 8:38 am

I wish I could say I am surprised. But this is coming from the President that said that it depended on what your definition of is is.

Doesnt really matter what he says anyway, the press will always carry his water and he knows it.

Great discussion on this topic guys. Thanks for starting it Matt. My wife and I were on a confirmation retreat this weekend with about 90 high school youth and about 25 adults. I was able to discuss this with many of them and no one could believe that Clinton could possibly be that “ignorant” or especially that Dr. Gupta could be so “sloppy” in his interview. He’s generally a very professional, although obviously liberal-leaning medical professional. CNN and the main stream media love him. That he sat there and let Clinton make that statement twice during his interview, seems very suspicious. In addition, a man trained in parcing syllables as Bill Clinton is, would unlikely make such a simple error without forethought. He went into the interview knowing exactly what he was going to be asked. Can you imagine that he didn’t have at least some notes prepared by his staffers before he went in? Is it plausible that he’s really just that “ignorant”?
I hate to sound cynical, but after living through 8 years of his presidency and now almost 9 years of his ex-presidency, I’m inclined to believe that there’s something more sinister going on here. At the very least, the Devil is working through CNN, Clinton and Gupta. More likely, they’ve all conspired to intentionally put out this misinformation knowing that the vast majority of folks watching won’t even catch the error and simply take it as “fact”. One more drip in the constant deluge promoting the Culture of Death.

I heard someone say the other day that it is no wonder he “had not had sex with that woman” – he doesn’t really know things – and he “did not commit adultery” either.

Dear Lord, help this man – help us all!

Janine March 16, 2009 at 4:49 pm

Ditto to the last comment. My goodness.

Nice catch Matt

This is the problem with most politicians. They regurgitate what their speech writers and handlers tell them. Very few ever spend anytime getting to know the issue they discuss well enough to avoid the appearance of ignorance. Poor Bill, he’s had a career full of this and still has not learned to educate himself on these types of issues.

I think we should pray for President Clinton’s, and other politician’s, conversion and abundant blessings of wisdom. If our leaders are not converted and wise, then many of our people will not be. Pax Vobis!

I knew that President Clinton had problems determining WHERE fertilization should take place, but it looks like he doesn’t know WHEN it takes place either.
